The essay, Economy, focuses on the Thoreau’s opinions of working men as slaves to their own household. He seems to be focusing heavily on working men within their own households, and instead of mentioning that men are slaves to their wife’s, he identifies it as being a slave to their own households and having to deal with both hard working labor as well as having to endure the weight of their families. He identifies working men to be as a machine (8a), constantly working without any time to give for themselves and their own hobbies. Within his opinions on the idea of working male injustices, Thoreau seems to make the claim that a man without anyone can be quicker towards success. He mentions inn paragraph 101 that, “[a man] who travels with another must wait till that other is ready…” and a question that heavily arose was whether or not the “another” was meant as a family or a wife?
