ParticipantIn The Village Thoreau says “Not till we are lost, in other words not till we have lost the world, do we begin to find ourselves and realize where we are and the infinite extent of our relations.” Chris would like this quote by Henry David Thoreau because Chris goes on a journey to find himself. Chris gets lost a few times on his journey but he never lets that stop him it only helps him discover more of who he is. Chris would also like this quote because it says everything he’s going for he wants to lose sight of his old life such as his family, college, future etc. so that he can truly find himself without the distractions of his old life.

ParticipantOne literary element is conflict and it is a major aspect of the book. Thoreau’s conflict was man vs. society. Thoreau did not like how much society depended on technology. ” I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” This quote shows how Thoreau didn’t want to live in society’s ideal ways depending on technology he wanted to live by himself and he wanted to learn how to live in the woods without the help of modern technology. Also Thoreau wanted to keep his life simple he didn’t want it to be complicated like society’s ideal life style.

ParticipantIf Thoreau saw our society today he would be quite shocked and disgusted with how much we depend on our technology and not many of us like going outside to the woods and to be alone. “We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn, which does not forsake us in our soundest sleep”. In this quote Thoreau is saying we shouldn’t depend on technology to wake us up like our alarm clocks but we should be able to wake ourselves up by being so excited for what our day has in store for us, so that we wake up without help we just wake up and get ready for our day without technology helping us to wake up.

ParticipantMy Walden is my room, I feel completely at peace and content there because it’s my space and I don’t have people trying to bother me so I can relax. Also, my room has everything put where I want it and nobody can move it on me because I don’t like when my stuff is moved without me knowing. My room has all of my electronics so I can check all of my social media and just watch movies and relax.

ParticipantPersonally i think this is going to be beneficial for the most part, but i think it will drag on and that will make it boring. Another way this can be beneficial is that we wont have to carry the book we can just read it online. One way that this can’t be beneficial is that the technology can cause confusion between people in the class.
