In chapter 8 in Thoreau’s Walden, he said “Not till we are lost, in other words not till we have lost the world, do we begin to find ourselves, and realize where we are and the infinite extent of our relations” Chris would love to hear this quote because it would inspire him to go out and find out who he is and what he’s looking for. In chapter four “Into The wild” when Chris gets lost and depressed with his canoe, he later feels his spirits soaring.
Conflict played role in the book Walden. Conflict is a struggle between two opposing forces, such as man vs. society in this case. The conflict was Thoreau moved away from society to live in the woods. He did not find modern technology enjoyable, so Thoreau thought it was silly how people were always obsessed with whats happening next instead of whats happening now.
If Thoreau were alive today he would find dissatisfaction in today’s society. People are too separate from each other and from nature because of new technology, Thoreau may not like the fact that people are reading his book on a mobile device rather than a paper book. When Thoreau said “i went to the woods because i wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts in life” Thoreau means that we should be connected to nature and each other physically and emotionally.
I feel at peace when i am in my room playing video games and eating popcorn.
This book will be interesting to read because its very old…
