In Detrital Wash Krakauer says “Then in a gesture that would have done both Thoreau and Tolstory proud, he arranged all his paper currency in a pile on the sand, a pathetic little stack of ones fives and twenties, and put a match to it.” I think that Thoreau would like that fact that someone takes after him, and want to be a transcendentalist like he was. He would like that Chris burned his money because he felt he did not need it.

There are many literary elements in Walden. The one that stands out to me the most is Setting. The definition of setting is the time and place in which a story takes place. Waldo takes place at Walden pond. It was owned by Ralph Waldo Emerson. The setting was important to Thereau’s message because his message was that he didn’t want to be surrounded by people or electronics. He felt the if was not in nature without anyone around he was being “suffocated.” He wants to have solitude.

If Thoreau was alive today he would hate our society. He would not like how society constantly judges people based on gender, your clothes, car, how much money you make, your sexuality, ext. Society is constantly judging people and Thoreau would be against it. He would say people need to experience nature. I think he would feel more “suffocated” in today’s society than he did when he was alive. Thoreau said “We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn, which does not forsake us in our soundest sleep.” He would feel even more strongly about this because almost every one uses technology to wake up.

I feel completely at peace when I am in my room reading. I like when I am able to read, or do whatever I want without anyone bothering me.

I think it may be difficult at first. But i think it will end up being beneficial
