In chapter 4-Detrial Wash, Chris McCandless says, “It is the experiences, the memories, the great triumphant joy of living to the fullest extent in which real meaning is found.” Thoreau would support this statement and most likely honor Chris for his ability to appreciate the joy of life itself and not the materialistic things that come along with it.
The literary element of conflict plays are large role in the story. Conflict is an internal or external resistance by the protagonist. Thoreau has conflict with civilization and within himself. He wants to escape society along with finding himself. Achieving both is a difficulty and a major conflict in Walden.
If Thoreau saw our society today he would most likely go into the woods and never come back. Our society is so caught up with things we want in life, but do not necessarily need. Thoreau says, “Why should we live with such hurry and waste of life?” We spend all of our time in anticipation of events to come, but do not even take in the things the world has granted us with already. Therefore we shouldn’t hurry through life since it’s the only life we have to live, a life that is rushed through is a life wasted. Thoreau would be displeased with what society has become and would probably try to explain to people why rushing through life is not a good choice…yolo.
I feel completely at peace and most content when I am at camp. There is no need to feel stressed with planning what you want to do during the day because from dawn to dusk there is an awesome activity or sport awaiting your arrival. Another reason I feel at peace is because I am surrounded by my bestfriends 24/7. Good times with good friends, what could be better?
I think using this technology will come to our advantage and help us communicate with our peers to better understand pieces of literature.
