Cody DuBielParticipantI think Chris McCandless would like when Thoreau stated on page 141, “I am convinced, that if all men were to live as simply as I then did, thieving and robbery would be unknown.” McCandless would love that statement because he would totally agree with Thoreau. Not many people look at life like Chris does and in a transcendentalist’s point of view the world would be much better if people would stop and really appreciate what they have in life. If everyone lived as simply as Thoreau stated, or Chris does, there would not have to be robbery or any sort of violence for that matter. Even though Chris was an elite athlete with a great education, he still loved to live simply even before his journey. He told his parents he didn’t need a new car because his car is perfect. He thought if the car ran, he did not need a new one. Both Thoreau and Chris thought the simple life was the best, that’s why I think Chris McCandless would appreciate this quote.

Cody DuBielParticipantThoreau would be disgusted with society today. He would not like how everyone relies on technology and how everyone rushes everyday. Thoreau states, “I want to live deliberately to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived,” This means that Thoreau wants to live without modern day tactics that we use on a daily. (Cell phones, t.v., post offices, cars…) He wants us to live with things that we NEED not WANT. In my point of view, Thoreau has a valid interpretation.

Cody DuBielParticipantConflict : an internal or external resistance faced by the protagonist.
Thoreau is always explaining how he does not like society because basically no one admires or appreciates what he does. For example when Thoreau states, ” To be awake is to be alive. I have yet to meet a man that is quite awake.” Basically he is saying no one is awake in society. Everyone is dead because they don’t slow down and realize what they have in life. He wants people to slow down and watch mother in action. As long as society continues to rush, Thoreau explains a transcendentalist will continue to be disgusted

Cody DuBielParticipantMy Walden is when I am on a field or court. When playing sports, everything escapes my mind and no matter what, I’m always the most content and calm when I’m out there.

Cody DuBielParticipantUsing new technology, this will give us a different point of view of the book itself. Using this it will be more convenient for all of us and we can do different things to help everyone understand the book. This can help each other help to understand the book better.
