Nathan McLovinParticipantInĀ Walden, Thoreau says “Sometimes I bolted suddenly, and nobody could tell my whereabouts, for I did not stand much about gracefulness, and never hesitated at a gap in a fence.” McCandless would appreciate this quote because it describes his current situation and feeling toward his life. He likes to just leave the world behind whenever he can and tell no one where he has gone, as though to separate himself from the modern world. He did not care what he left behind, worried parents, abandoned car, burnt money, his bank account drained and given to charity, even a completely new identity, Alexander Supertramp. McCandless and Thoreau connected in that they both wanted to leave their societies behind, to separate from materialism.

Nathan McLovinParticipantConflict is a major part of the story Walden, mostly due to the fact that if Thoreau had no conflict with society and their materialism, he would have never left to begin with. Essentially, conflict is what created the story to begin with.

Nathan McLovinParticipantThoreau would be “Thoreau”ly (hehe) mortified by today’s society. We are too materialistic for his taste, objects constantly rule our lives. People are judged by what possessions they own, not by their skills. If you throw the person who owns the most stuff, he would surely die, because he is too attached to his material possessions and modernized life. Society as a whole is always waiting for the next “thing” to buy. Thoreau would not be content in the slightest degree with our society now.

Nathan McLovinParticipantI feel at peace when I’m around no one, just out in the woods, whether it be in a tree or on the ground. But you best feel the bass when I make them antlers drop. The peace and serenity of a quiet morning with no sound, no annoying people, but a lot of annoying squirrels, there’s no cars, no needy phone calls, no satanic worshipers, no drug cartels. You might say it’s ideal matey.

Nathan McLovinParticipantTo be perfectly honest madam, this could go one of two ways, a glorious victory or perhaps even crash and burn. I believe that kittens should be used to provide extra power to our wifi so the entire system does not crash every 5 minutes, that would be ideal. Technology is a great tool, the information can be accessed almost anywhere. I think this will be brotally swagical matey.
