In “Where I Lived and What I Lived For,” paragraph 16, Thoreau discusses how he lives plainly with few/ no luxuries, but he does so by choice, when many people do not have a choice to live that way. Again in “The Bean-Field,” Thoreau discusses the hard labor he must put into creating the bean-field, but he is blind to the fact that for many people, farming is not some way of entertainment or a way to et closer to nature, it is a way of life. Thoreau has an option to put himself in all the situations he does, but he doesn’t stop to appreciate the luxury of that choice that many others don’t have.
