In The Village, Thoreau states “Sometimes i bolted suddenly, and nobody could tell my whereabouts…”, this quote would reach out and relate to Chris because it is how he felt and what he did. Chris, suddenly bolts from his life, puts his past behind him and moves on; with no one knowing his whereabouts.
This will be a very different take on an old book. The irony that we are doing it over computers is very…………ironic……
Setting. Setting is the time and place of the story. Setting is extremely important in the book, the setting of this book is that of a pond, a peaceful, free of society location. Because it is free from society the story can focus on the outside rustic look rather than a modern inside look.
The setting is very important for the description of this book, it lays down the foundation and overall background the author is trying to convey. The setting (being walden pond) portrays a message of tranquility and peacefulness in the book. The setting in this book gives an aura of disconnection from society, Thoreau chose this setting to detach the reader from society and bring them to a specific peaceful state.
Based on the nature of the book i feel he would find today’s society quite startling.”The only house I had been the owner of before, if I except a boat, was a tent” Based on this Thoreau would find the extravagance that we would like to live in to be appalling. Today we rely on a materialistic lifestyle with a hope for tomorrow where as in Thoreau’s time they lived in the moment, this would be a great change for a man like him to succumb too.
I feel most content anywhere surrounded by electronics. When i am alone surrounded by all sorts of devices i feel at peace.
