In chapter 8 Thoreau says ” These take place only in communities where some have got more than is sufficient while others have not enough.” He is talking about theft how people only steal from people who have more than enough to live. He is saying that people would not steal if they lived simply with only the things they need because everyone would have the same. Chris McCandless believed that you should live with only what you needed not anymore. He did not believe in money or possessions. He believed that you could live off the land as simply as possible just like Thoreau.
I Believe that Thoreau would have hated life today. He liked to live a simple life without technology. On page 74 Thoreau says “I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life”. He wants to make life as simple as possible, to live like people use to before all the technology and other things that everyone believes we need today.
I think that this website will be helpful with the reading of the book. We may be able to understand the book better because we can comment on parts of the story and see what other people think of that same passage. Although that will help I do think reading the book online will be difficult because the book online does not have page numbers only paragraph numbers, which is different from the book in your hand.
Conflict is a major literary element in the book. Conflict is a resistance faced by the hero of the story. It plays a major role because the whole story is about Thoreau versus society. In the book Thoreau is opposed to industrialization, taxes, and especially the support of slavery.
I am at my Walden when I’m with my friends and family. Especially when we are just sitting around talking or watching movies.
