In, Into The Wild Krakauer states “Then, in a gesture that would have done both Thoreau and Tolstoy proud, he arranged all his paper currency in a pile on the sand-a pathetic little stack of ones and fives and twenties-and put a match to it.” Thoreau would have been proud to this action because to live happily you don’t need money. This was a true transcendentalist action to burn all your money. It was the same principle that Thoreau did except he just gave it away.
Setting is an important literary element in this book. This is because of the time and place of the book. Thoreau was living in Concord, Massachusetts between 1845-1847. He was living on his friends property right by Walden pond. Thoreau had to go through the harsh winters of the northeast America without much of anything
If Thoreau was alive in today’s society he would be disgusted. “I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life” Thoreau wants to use as little as he can and get the most out if it, in modern society we hardly use things and we want more or we want the newer version.
My Walden is in my room I have a lot of things to do and have just about everything I need to stay content
Technology is a beneficial thing especially when you are reading something old you cant really understand. It will be hard at first because were not use to this kind of thing.
