Transcendentalism is the belief the structures like church and state corrupted the individual. Thoreau is a perfect example of this given his distrust of the government and his participation in civil disobedience. Stanton seems to also fit neatly into the transcendentalism box given her revolutionary views on human rights and the intellectual diversity of society. Although Stanton is considered a transcendentalist, I find her views very inline with the American democracy way of government. Mainly because I feel the intellectual diversity does not serve a community much good if it isn’t given representation and a vehicle to impact its community. Moreover though the transcendentalist don’t like things like political parties, they are likely taking them for granted because as much as they lead to gridlock and problems they do have benefits to our political system and democratic why of life.
